In the latest Windows versions, you can dock a window on the left or right half of the screen, by simply dragging the window and touching one of the screen's edges. Windock takes this functionality a bit further, by multiplying the areas in which you can snap windows and by allowing you to set up your own docking rules and triggers. Besides extending the docking functionality, the application can also bring it to older systems.

Windock is distributed as a freeware application. It can be installed almost instantly, on all popular Windows versions and it is compatible with both 32 and 64-bit operating systems. The application doesn't have any significant impact on performance and it doesn't have any special requirements.

While the application is working in the background, you can snap any windows to the lower right area of the screen, upper right and in many other regions, just by clicking and dragging a window and touching the screen's edges. Windock comes with a predefined profile for the aforementioned window positions, as well as a profile that mimics the Windows Aero snap.

You can select a profile or create a new one on a settings panel, which can be accessed through the application's system tray icon. Creating a new profile is quite easy. All you have to do is name your profile and add one or more snap rules, in different lists. Rules can be defined by specifying a trigger area, as well as a position and dimensions for windows. Trigger areas can be the screen's corners, edges or a general region.

The application allows you to switch between different profiles immediately, through options from its system tray icon. If the window snapping is hindering your work, you can disable it in the aforementioned menu, where you may enable or disable other features as well, like snap resizing, the possibility of dragging windows from their maximized states and more.

Pros

Windock adds new positions and sizes for docked windows. You can define your own regions and sizes and save them in different profiles. The application is lightweight and its controls are very easy to understand.

Cons

Windock will disable the default Windows snapping feature and it will remain disabled even when you shut down the application. Fortunately, the issue can be solved by rebooting the computer. Thanks to Windock's clever functionality, working with multiple windows can be done in a comfortable and elegant fashion.
